The people of this community were shocked on Monday morning when the sad news reached here announcing the death of one of our very best former citizens, Mrs. Lydia Maria Barney. For the past twelve years she has spent most of her time in Colorado with her son, Lucien M. Barney, and while her health for years has been poor yet the last time she visited Olathe, which was but a few months ago, she was looking exceptionally well. Her last sickness was of short duration and was not thought serious until the day before she died which was Sunday evening and on Monday services were held over the remains conducted bv Rev. Horace E. Warner, pastor of Christ Methodist church of that city, after which the remains were taken to the train enroute for Olathe. arriving here Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday funeral services were held in the M. E. church conducted by Rev. J. D. M. Buckner. The body was laid to rest in the Olathe cemetery. Next week the MIRROR will try and give something of the history and Christian work of this good woman.  But personally we want to offer our heartfelt sympathy to the son, and we fully appreciate how heartbroken he must be at the loss of his mother, the dearest friend any  human being can have.
