The Life of BYRON BROCKWAY

Byron Brockway, formerly of East Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2015, at the Village at Legacy Pointe.

Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, 1 NE 60th Ave., Des Moines.

Byron was born June 5, 1920, to Lawrence and Mary Brockway in Audubon, IA. He was a 1938 East High graduate and attended Capital City Commercial College. After school Byron opened and operated a confection stand in the Harger Blish Building on 11th and Mulberry until he was called into the service. He was a combat veteran in WWII in the South Pacific.

After the service, Byron was employed by the Thermogas Company. He later retired from Monroe Calculating Company, after 32 years of service. Byron married Gloria “Glo” Lawler in July 1947. He was a long time member of the Des Moines Garden Club. Byron enjoyed watching Iowa and Iowa State play football, playing cribbage and fishing, but most of all spending time at their cabin in Minnesota.

Byron is survived by his wife of 67 years, Glo. Memorial contributions may be made directed to a charity of one’s choice.
