The Life of VIVIAN BETTY NEESE

Vivian B. Neese, 88, of Ahwaukee, died of congestive heart failure on Sept. 23 at Mercy Gilbert Hospital. Services will be held in Des Moines, Iowa. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in late spring 2015.

Neese was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and lived there until moving to Arizona 28 years ago. She retired from the Iowa National Guard before moving to Arizona. She worked and retired from Millie’s Hallmark in Ahwatukee. To many she was known affectionately as the “Card Lady” and was highlighted in the Ahwatukee Foothills News on April 2, 2008 for being the community’s “greeting-card-guru.” She would carry around a little calendar in her apron at Millie’s that listed all the upcoming holidays so she could stay ahead of the game and offer the best assistance to shoppers at the local Hallmark store in The Ahwatukee Plaza. Neese always encouraged others to send cards and notes to friends and family members even when it wasn’t a special occasion. “Just sending a card can brighten their day,” she said. “And it’s not very expensive.”

Neese is survived by a son, Eugene Neese of Ahwatukee; two daughters, Becky Pattee of Gilbert and Debbie Rosenoff of Langley, Wash.; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and two great, great grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
