The Life of BARBARA WARNE
Barbara JoAnn Warne, 80, passed away October 10, 2015 at Iowa Lutheran Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 19 at Iles Grandview Park Chapel in Des Moines. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens.
Barbara was born in Des Moines on April 9, 1935, the daughter of George and Irene (Burch) Warne. Barbara was always a caregiver, and in addition to taking care of her family she worked 43 years providing care to the mentally ill. She worked for Hospice of Central Iowa for 12 years before retiring in 2001, after which she did private care for terminally ill patients.
Barbara enjoyed working in her yard, mowing, and her flowers. There were a lot of trees on her property, and you could often find her walking the acreage picking up sticks and making her yard look very nice. The home that she lived in was built by her father, and is where she cared for her mother until her mother''''s death. Barbara also enjoyed all kinds of crafts and needlework. She loved gambling at the casinos and going to Las Vegas with friends and family. She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Chicago Bears, and NASCAR. Barbara always had a smile and a helping hand for all of her family and friends and she will be missed very much.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Ron (JoAnn) Warne of Canada, Sandy (Sheila) Warne of Des Moines, Katie Warne of West Branch, and Bill Warne, Jr. of Oxford, as well as six great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ron and Bill Warne; and nephews Scott and Craig Warne.
