The Life of FRANK NORMAN BECK

Norm Beck, 80, passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, following complications of Alzheimer''s and an abdominal aneurysm. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 29, at First Baptist Church, located at 8250 N.W. 62nd Avenue, Johnston. The family will greet friends for one hour prior to the service on Saturday. A light lunch with ice cream sundae bar will follow the service. Burial and military honors will take place at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.

Norm was born July 22, 1935 in Leavenworth, KS. He attended Leavenworth High School and graduated from the University of Kansas in Journalism. Norm was a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and served at Ft. Sill, OK. He married Dorothy Bragdon on September 28, 1985. When he came to Des Moines, Norm worked for Gilbreath Auto Trim and Supply for 38 years, retiring in 2000. He traveled all over carrying upholstery supplies in his van. Norm was a member of First Baptist Church in Des Moines since 1964 and served on many boards. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Beck, Johnston; daughter, Cathy (Eldon) Beck-Cross, Grimes; stepson, Kent (Sandy) Bragdon, Urbandale; stepdaughter, Michele Daves, Urbandale; sister, Vickey Beck, La Harpe, KS; stepsister, Barbara Lang, Glendale, AZ; and six grandchildren, Alec Beck-Cross, Ian Beck-Cross, Allie Bragdon, Colby Bragdon, Spencer Daves and Sawyer Daves. Norm was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Killian Beck and Vina Louise Coffin; and uncle, George Mennesson. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
