The Life of CAROL LEE WATTERS
Carol Lee Johnston Watters, 74, passed away on July 4, 2015 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa after a recurrence with cancer. The beloved youngest daughter of Landon and Lelah E. Langaker Johnston, Carol was born on November 10, 1940. She attended East High School and graduated in 1959. She married the love of her life, Phillip M. Watters, on September 2, 1960. She left Northwestern Bell as the first female sales manager after she became pregnant with their first child. Together they welcomed two more children to their growing family. Carol was a loving wife, and an active and creative mother. Once her children were raised, she became a legal assistant for Hawkins & Norris, P.C. This career spanned over two decades and brought her much joy. Carol will be remembered for her kindness, tenacity, delicious manicotti and baked beans, as well as her great loyalty for the Green Bay Packers!
Carol is survived by her children, Tammy (Gary) Mason, Trisha (Vince) Scavo, and Michael (Lisa) Watters; grandchildren, Erin, Lindsey, Mikayla, Vincent, Michael, Joseph, Lucy, and Luie; many more family members and a host of many very close friends, especially several dear lifelong girlfriends. Carol was preceded in death by her twin infant sons, Trent and Troy; her parents, siblings, Robert Johnston, Virginia Johnston Ferinac, and John Johnston; and her adored husband, Phil.
A visitation with Carol’s family will be held from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory at 8201 Hickman Road in Urbandale. A memorial service to celebrate Carol’s life will be at 11:00 am on Thursday, July 9, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines.
