The Life of DONALD WAYNE THOMAS

Donald Wayne Thomas left this world on January 31, 2015, to be with his wife of 63 years, Dorothy.

Don was born May 15, 1920 to his parents Wayne C. and Irma L. Thomas in Hampton, IA. He was a World War II Veteran and was proud of it.

Don lived a full life that some only dream about. He was a pilot and flew his own planes all over Des Moines with advertising banners flying behind the plane. He was an airplane mechanic and an instructor for this at Tech High School for many years.

His hobbies were many; motorcycles, bicycles, violins, watches and clocks. He repaired them all and could play the violin also. He passed his love of motorcycles onto his son.

Don is survived by his only son, Ronald W. and daughter-in-law, Yasuko Thomas. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; and his brother, Gene and his wife.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Heart Association in loving memory of Donald.
