The Life of NORMAN LOUIS LARSEN

Norman Louis Larsen was born March 7, 1930 to Louis and Carrie Larsen in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The Lord called him home suddenly on January 2, 2015.

Norman was raised on a farm in Underwood, Iowa, and was a graduate of Underwood High School. He proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953 and was in the reserves until April 1957.

Norman moved to Des Moines in 1956 when he went to work for Iowa Power as a lineman. He retired as a line crew foreman in 1985. After his retirement, Norman became active in the retirees Young At Heart Club and enjoyed the many new friendships. He enjoyed reading, the Hawkeyes, traveling, golf and bowling. Norman loved his family and enjoyed getting together as often as possible.

Norman was a long-time dedicated member of Grandview Park Baptist Church. He was also instrumental in helping to get Northridge Baptist Church started.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Lornas (Harrington) Larsen: children Bryan (Nancy), Paul (Nelda), Peter (Kim), Rebecca (Jack) Davis, Rachael, Ramona (Mark) Shimeall: brothers Ernie (Jo) and David (Karen), sisters-in-law Gloria and Ruth Larsen: 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Shirley, daughter Ruth Weston, brothers Orville and Stanley Larsen, sisters Helen and Phyllis, and grandson Gary Caldwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family to support missionaries who are special to Norman.

Visitation will be Friday, January 9, 5-7 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. Funeral services will be Saturday, January 10, at 12:00 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.
