The Life of JOHN EARL GILLSON
John E. Gillson, 83, passed away December 28, 2014, at Regency Care Center in Norwalk, Iowa. He was born March 5, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Clyde and Violet Gillson.
John was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He retired from EMCO and was later a self-employed vendor until his final retirement. He enjoyed playing the guitar, singing, fishing, and tinkering.
John is survived by his wife, Anna; children, John Gillson II; Mildred Gillson, and Raylene (Vern) Bundy; step-children, Delbert (Debbie) Pierson, Carol (Denny) Mayher, and Tim (Pavitra) Pierson; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 9 siblings.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, January 2, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday afternoon from 2 to 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Iowa Commission for the Blind in loving memory of John.
