The Life of LEON JASPER BENNA

Leon Benna

Ankeny

Leon "Pal" Benna, 83, closed his eyes and went on his last journey to the gates of heaven on the sunny day of Thursday, June 12, 2014. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Monday, June 16, 2014 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 517 SW Des Moines St., Ankeny, with burial at Highland Memory Gardens. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the church.

Leon was born on May 18, 1931 to George and Edith (Spar) Benna on their family farm in Albert City, IA. He was one of eleven children and the last boy, which lead to his nickname of "Pal", from his older brothers. He grew up and graduated from high school in Alta, IA. Leon and Marilyn (Yager) met in Alta and were married on June 10, 1956. They had two children, Nancy and Kyle, and four grandchildren.

Pal worked for the State of Iowa as a credit union examiner for over 30 years. He loved to fix things and you would often find him "tinkering" in the garage which was always open to visitors!

Leon will be greatly missed by his wife, Marilyn; children, Nancy (Jacques) Ducray of Mauritius, Kyle (Jennifer) Benna of Ankeny; grandchildren, Alex Ducray, Marc Ducray, Luke Benna, and Peri Benna; sisters, Joyce Sandine of Alta, IA, Anita Williams of Ottawa, KS; cousins, Dorothy Deitch of Des Moines and Eloise Harlan of Des Moines and beloved family and friends.

The family extends extreme gratitude to all the doctors and caregivers who have taken excellent care of Leon over the years.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Unity Point Hospice of Des Moines.
