The Life of SHERMAN EDWARD CONRAD

Sherman E. Conrad, 85, was born April 2, 1929, to Faye and Olga Conrad in Creston, Iowa. He passed away May 8, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.

Sherman was a WWII veteran of the United States Coast Guard serving on the U.S.S. Ingham, and was a research engineer for Delavan for 35 years. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church. Sherman enjoyed square dancing and had been a charter member of the Sugar Creek Cloggers. During retirement, Sherman found great joy in wood carving and joined the Greenfield Village Wood Carving Club in Mesa, AZ. He also volunteered numerous hours at Iowa Lutheran Hospital over the years.

Sherman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara; children, Darrell (Becky), Kathy (Dan) Crees, Eric (Kira), Christopher (Joan), and Julie (Kevin) McClain; 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren with one on the way, and his sister, Carolyn Bel.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 4525 Beaver Avenue in Des Moines, with burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 3 to 5 p.m. at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue.
