The Life of BARBARA RAE MICKELSON
Barbara Rae Mickelson, 79, passed away January 17, 2014 at Hospice Kavanagh House, following a brief illness. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014 at Iles Dunn''s Chapel. The family will greet friends following the service. Private burial of her cremated remains will be at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.
Barbara was born on May 9, 1934 in Des Moines to Scott and Jenny Lou Cairney. She graduated from East High School Class of 1952. She was married to Walter "Mike" Mickelson and they lived in Colorado Springs and in Alaska, while Mike was in the service, before moving back to Des Moines. Barbara spent almost her entire working career at Equitable Life Insurance Company of Iowa, retiring as a Senior Life Underwriter. Barbara was a member of the same bridge club for over 50 years. During retirement she enjoyed many happy years at the Bridge Center in Clive, traveled to several different tournaments and achieved the status of Life Master. Barbara also enjoyed travel, reading and movies.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Kristin Boatwright; grandsons, Michael (Sahara) Boatwright and Stephen Boatwright and great grandchildren, Gavin and Lana all of Des Moines.
