The Life of SERGIO VALENTINO D'ALESSANDRO

Sergio Valentino "Val" D'Alessandro,

84, of Wyomissing, passed away Saturday, September 24, 2016, at the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

He is survived by his wife, Carmelina (Stanziola) D'Alessandro, whom he married on September 19, 1968 in Centola, in the Province of Salerno, Italy.

Born on February 24, 1932, in Ari, in the Province of Chieti, in Italy, he was the son of the late Luigi and Giulia (DiSabato) D'Alessandro.

He was a crane operator since 1951 and worked for Birdsboro Corporation in Birdsboro and retired from The Rose Corporation in Reading on February 18, 2005, at the age of 72.

Val came to the U.S. in 1951 to make a better life for

himself and the rest of his family that were to follow him. He was a peacemaker and most passionate about his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and loyal friend. Val was most happy when his family was all together for Sunday dinners, vacations, or special

occasions and loved to share stories about his amazing life and experiences.

Gardening was Val's passion in life and he was proud to share his knowledge with all of his family and friends. His garden was meticulous and always contained a variety of fruits, vegetables, beans and even figs. He took great pride in providing for his family, and being outdoors.

He leaves a legacy in his wife, three children and seven grandchildren. He taught them many things, like gardening, wine making, Italian cards, bocci ball and the importance of family. He will truly be missed but forever in their hearts.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children: Lisa, wife of David Folk, Birdsboro; Dante L., husband of Nicole (Palaferro) D'Alessandro, Sinking Spring; and Silvana T., wife of Thomas Spaulding, Scottsdale, Ariz. He is also survived by his four siblings: Amalia DiFelice, widow of Romeo, Shillington; Raimondo D'Alessandro, widower of Linda (DiLanzo), Birdsboro; Gemma and her husband, Nicola D'Alessandro. Shillington; and Elvira and her

husband, Mauro D'Alessandro, Shillington. He is survived by seven grandchildren: Justin and Joshua Folk; Anthony and Thomas Spaulding; and Sofia, Dante Sergio and Gino D'Alessandro, Many nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly, also survive him.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday,

September 30, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 740 Cherry St., West Reading, with burial to follow in Gethsemane Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from 8 to 10 a.m. in Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home, Inc., 739 Penn Avenue, West Reading.

Dear Uncle Val You would be proud to know that your legacy still lives on with this first growing season after your passing your wife Carm did a wonderful garden this year; the vegetables and herbs are growing beautifully - a real tribute to your past labors.
