Obituary for William Emler

WILLIAM J. EMLER SR

 

AUSTINTOWN – William J. Emler Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, Austinwoods Care Center, Austintown.

Born May 13, 1936, he was the son of Arthur and Vernie (Wilson) Emler.

After attending school in Hanover Township, Pa., William entered the military, serving in the U.S. Marine Corps.

William married his love, Emma, on May 10, 1956. They were happily married over 56 years.

He proudly served in the Vietnam War and retired after a decorated 20 year career.

After the Marines, William became a truck driver. He delivered goods all over this country. William displayed the same dedication to this profession as he did to everything he set out to do.

When not working, William was a devoted NASCAR fan. His favorite driver was Tony Stewart. He faithfully cheered him in every race. In his youth, William also participated in racing at tracks in Sharon, Pa., Mercer, Pa., and Lernersville Pa.

William leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Emma (Hatala) Emler; sons, William (Monica) Emler Jr. of Boardman, Robert (Linda) Emler of Niles, James (Sherri) Emler of Austintown, and Thomas Emler of Austintown; and sister, Martha Stroud of Pennsylvania.

William also leaves 12 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Vernice; and sister, Audrey Neeley.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 7, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel, 1350 N. Canfield-Niles Road, Mineral Ridge, OH 44440.

Services will be on Saturday, Feb. 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

William’s family is wishing monetary donations be made, in lieu of flowers, to the Wounded Warrior Project or Disabled American Veterans.
