Charles H. Johnson Sr.

Charles H. Johnson Sr., 78, went home to be with the Lord January 25, 2014.

Born in Columbus, Ga., he had lived in this community 51 years. He retired from the City of Akron after 28 years of service. He was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, a Deacon, Usher, former employee of Rhoden Memorial Home and a member of Corner Stone Lodge #33.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Willie Bell Johnson and sons, Gregory and Karl. He is survived by his wife, Glennie; sons, Charles H. Jr. and Ian Johnson, Eddie and Ben Davis; daughters, Lisa (Robert) Hamilton, Kara Davison and Diane Davis; brother, Jessie Johnson; brother-in-law, Henry (Mary) Dunn; 31 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; ex-wife and friend, Jewerline Copeland-Johnson; caregiver, Marquetta Fields; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 12 noon at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1180 Slosson St., with Rev. Dr. Alicia Malone officiating and Pastor Melvin Brown eulogizing. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 408 Noah Ave., Akron 44320
