Obituary for Gervais Anderson

Gervais Philbert "Phil" Anderson

On January 19, 2014 Gervais Philbert "Phil" Anderson completed his journey and passed away peacefully in his sleep.

He was born in Akron, Ohio to JoAnn Bell Anderson and the late Gilbert Anderson on January 2, 1961.

He attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from Central-Hower High School. He enlisted in the United States Army after high school. He attended the University of Akron and received an associate degree from Stark State University in Canton, Ohio. He also attended DeVry University in Columbus, Ohio.

Phil was a chef at the Sheraton Suites in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He owned Grubber''s Restaurant, Bell Temporary Services and Hennessy Lounge. He also worked as a transportation specialist for Mamo Transportation, a company that transports any type of vehicle throughout the U.S.A. For the last two months he stayed home to care for his beloved mother during her illness.

His church affiliation was under Rev. I.T. Bradley at Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Gilbert Anderson; grandparents, Dave and Gertrude Bell, who he loved dearly, and Wiley and Blanche Anderson.

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, JoAnn Anderson; son, Phil DeShawn Mills; sister, Chrysa Marie Martin; godmother, Louise Jackson; special aunt, Susan Lindsay; a devoted cousin, Rev. Dr. James Terrell, of Washington, D.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Service will be held Monday, January 27, 2014 at 12 Noon at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Rev. Dr. James Terrell eulogizing and Rev. Dr. Luther C. Cooper officiating. Interment Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11 a.m. until time of service.
