Iola Milbry

Iola Milbry, 96, went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2014.

She was born February 4, 1917 in Union Springs, Ala. and moved to Akron, Ohio at an early age. She was a member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, had been a member of the Senior Choir, retired from Playtex Rubber in 1965 and was employed at the Akron Board of Education as head cook at Buchtel High School until retiring in the early 1980''s. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Johnson Beauty Chapter #6.

Preceded in death by her husband, Fred Lee Milbry; parents, Shelton and Asalenia Smart; sons, John and Robert "Bobby" Clark; brothers, Douglas, Hugh, Abraham and Thigpen Smart and sisters, Sweeney and Gertrude Smart and Margaret Peacock. She is survived by devoted son, Michael (Gussie) Johnson; 17 grandchildren including special granddaughters, Tina (David) Greer and Debra Shelton; special grandsons, Raymond (Crystal) Carter, Leonard Folk and Robert Clark; 43 great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

Funeral service will be held Monday, January 20, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Mount Olive Baptist Church, 1180 Slosson St. with Rev. Joseph Lee officiating. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until time of service. Eastern Star service at 10:45 a.m. Interment at Mount Peace Cemetery.
