MINERAL RIDGE – George A. Jackson Jr., 75, passed away Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at his residence surrounded by his family.

George was born Nov. 6, 1938, in Mineral Ridge, to parents George A. Sr., and Dorothy (Reed) Jackson.

George proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married Nancy Davis on Nov. 15, 1958, and together they had a wonderful son.

George was very active in the First Baptist Church of Howland. He worked for Copperweld Steel Corporation as a steel worker and union representation, retiring after more than 30 years of work. He took his union work very seriously and enjoyed helping as many workers as possible.

George will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Jeffrey A. Jackson of University Heights; sister, Betty (Paul) Tucke of San Antonio; brothers, Ron (Sally) Jackson of Austintown and Tom (Sue) Jackson of Mineral Ridge; and many nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Mineral Ridge Chapel from 4 to 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, starting at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to one of the following organizations: MVI Home Care and Hospice of Youngstown, the Second Harvest Food Bank of Mahoning Valley, or the Warren Family Mission.
