AUSTINTOWN – Joseph L. Nagy Sr., 76, passed away peacefully early Thursday morning, Jan. 9, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.

Joseph was born June 7, 1937, in New Kensington, Pa., a son of the late Frank and Elizabeth Pater Nagy.

Joe was a 1955 graduate of West Deer High School in Pennsylvania. He moved to Austintown in 1965 with his family and worked at Packard Electric in Warren for 36 years, retiring in 1999 as a millwright.

Mr. Nagy was member of St. Joseph Church in Austintown. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan and enjoyed traveling and playing cards. He was a “family man” who thoroughly enjoyed the time he spent with his family, and was known as “Pappy Joe” to his 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as to any child that came into his home.

Joe leaves his beloved wife of 57 years, Lillian M. Smulick Nagy, whom he married March 10, 1956; seven children, Joseph L. Jr. (Lisa) Nagy of Canfield, John C. Sr. (Debbie) Nagy of Austintown, Diane (Jim) Diaz of Parish, Fla., Deborah (Gary) Scurti of Austintown, Linda Loth (Fred Butcher) of Salem, Michael P. Nagy of Raleigh, N.C., and William E. (Colleen) Nagy of Columbiana; 17 grandchildren, Heather (Brian), Jason, Anthony, Michael, Kimberly, Nicole, Sara, John Jr. (Sarah), Ashley, Matthew, Samantha, Courtney, Joseph III, Alysia, Salena, Kevin, and Ella; 15 great-grandchildren, Kayley, Marissa, Brian Jr., Justin Jr., Ally, Leah, Steven III, Jason Jr., Andrea, Jameir, Mason, Cameron, Aiden, Gavin, and Nathaniel; three brothers, James (Patricia) Nagy of West Deer Township, Pa., David (Barbara) Nagy of Hampton, Pa., and Stephen (Eileen) Nagy of West Deer; two sisters, Kathleen (Wayne) Gilliam of West Deer and Christine (James) Zacheral of Butler, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Nagy of West Deer; and many nieces and nephews.

Joe was preceded in death two brothers, Frank and Carl Nagy, and a great-grandson, Gabriel.

Family and friends may call from 3 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 12, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will begin at 10:15 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, and continue at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church on New Road.
