Obituary for Eugene Baker

Funeral services for Eugene "Gene" Baker, 80, of Ashtabula, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Spear-Mulqueeny Funeral Home, where friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Interment will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township. The son of Carl H. and Mary G. (Smith) Baker was born Oct. 25, 1933, in Mayfield Heights. A three-year resident of Ashtabula and formerly of Painesville, Eugene passed away Dec. 1, 2013, at Carrington Park in Ashtabula. Mr. Baker served as a deputy sheriff in Geauga County, security at Chase Brass, Diamond Shamrock, and Euclid Inc., and retired from the Die Company in Eastlake. He was a life member of Elks Lodge 549 in Painesville and the Allegra Motor Home Club. Survivors are his wife of 60 years, Inez "Bunny" (Manross) Baker; son, Eugene (Kathy) Baker II of Conneaut; daughter, Debra (Bill) Eagle of Ashtabula; four grandchildren, Jessica (Derek) Lebzelter, Megan (Terry) Burr, Nicole (Eric) Rutherford and Bill (Maartje) Eagle; seven great-grandchildren, Henry, Marcus, and Benjamin Lebzelter, Emilie and Michael Burr, and Rowan and Marcus Eagle; and best friends, Tedd and Mag Heidenrich, and Jack Stadler. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Beatrice Dreslinski; brothers, Merle and Arnold Baker; and best friend, Sue Stadler.
