Rudolph Valentino Ammons, Sr. "Rootman"

Rudolph Valentino Ammons, Sr. "Rootman" was born in Akron, Ohio on April 13, 1938 to the late Wesley L. Ammons and Laura Parnell. He passed away on August 25, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Luretha (Stamps) Ammons; and sisters, Carolyn J. Ammons-Jones, and Marcella Ammons-Henderson.

He attended South High School in Akron where he graduated in 1956. He was in the U.S. Air Force and had been employed by Chrysler Corporation. He played the saxophone and was in the band with his brothers.

Rudolph was married to the late Luretha (Stamps) Ammons and they had five beautiful children, Delbert L. Ammons, Carmen D. Ammons, Tonya D. (Ammons) Chapman, Rudolph V. Ammons, Jr., and Timothy A. Ammons. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Hubert, Lander, and Milton Ammons; special niece and caregiver, Michelle Henderson (Thank You Michelle); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Service will be held Saturday, September 7, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Stewart & Calhoun Funeral Home, 529 W. Thornton St., Akron, OH 44307, Deacon Lawrence Bell officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 10:30 a.m. until time of service. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 1221 Everton Dr., Apt. 909, Akron, OH 44307
