Obituary for Harry Buechler

Harry Buechler, Jr.

Harry Buechler, Jr., age 90, passed away peacefully July 23, 2013.

Harry was born October 13, 1922 in Akron, Ohio.

He was preceded in death by father, Harry, Sr.; mother, Ella Ethel (Snider); brothers, Paul Henry and Merle Robert; and son, Gerald David. Harry is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Rita Jean; son, Thomas Paul; daughter, Patricia Ann (Creston) Mapes; and grandchildren, Michael Sean Buechler, JoAnn Buechler (Gregory) Marsh, Abigail Jean Mapes, Hannah Kathryn Mapes, Esther Mary Mapes and Creston Paul Mapes.

A generous, loving parent and grandparent, Harry was also a considerate and thoughtful friend and neighbor. He served proudly in the United States Navy aboard the USS Tuscaloosa during World War II and aboard the USS Daly during the Korean War. He worked for the B.F.Goodrich Co. in Akron for 42 years. Harry was an avid golfer and reader. After his retirement he involved himself in adult literacy programs and volunteered as a Guardian ad Litem advocate for children. Harry logged many miles, walking at the Summit Mall. A life-long learner, Harry had a broad range of interests. He inspired his children and grandchildren to explore and examine their world. Harry Buechler bequeaths to his family and friends a wealth of fond memories and a legacy of integrity.

The Buechler Family would like to thank the volunteers and staff at Akron General Visiting Nurse Service Hospice for their excellent care of Harry during his last days.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013, 1 p.m. at the Hummel Funeral Home, 3475 Copley Rd., Copley.
