Obituary for Daniel H Glasser
[PASSED FROM EARTH] We are but Pilgrims Here, Traveling Onward to Our Eternal Home- the Parting Hour Has Come to Some of Our Fellow Travelers
A Civil War Veteran, formerly from our town, was found dead in bed at Bernville. He was one of the older citizens and almost a life-long resident of our town. He was boarding with D.H. Fortra, when the latter conducted the American House in town. When he left for Bernville to take charge of the Union House there. Glasser went with him and had his home there since. He was found dead by Mr. Fortna at 6 o’clock Wednesday evening.
Thomas Kalbach, deputy coroner, empaneled the following jury: Charles P. Kalbach, James Kline, John H. Bright, C. Schweikert, William S. Heffner and Hiram Schaeffer. The jury rendered a verdict that the cause of death was heart disease.
Undertaker, J. H. Hollenbach took charge of the body. The deceased attained the ripe age of 74 years.
He leaves a widow and the following children: Newton, of East Eaton, O.; Benton, of Chapin, Saginaw Co., Mich.; Sulah, of Chicago; Ellen, wife of Kirk Livingstone, Hunter, Dauphin Co.; Agnes, wife of Benj. Keenan, Phila.; Percival, of Montgomery, N. J.; Mrs. Kate M. Weand, of Phila.; Laura, wife of Samuel Glosser, Phila.
One daughter, Lizzie, preceded him in death.
The funeral will be held next Monday forenoon, at 10 a.m., from the residence of his widow on upper Main Street of this borough . Interment will be made in Hope cemetery. Rev. E.E.H. Leinbach officiating. Funeral directors, Gehret & Son will have charge. The veterans of town will honor the memory of their departed comrade by attending his funeral and supplying the pall bearers.
The deceased has a good war record and held two honorable discharges. He was a member of Co. M., Fifth U. S. artillery. He enlisted in Nov. 1861 and served until February 12, 1867. He guarded Dr. Mudd, who was implicated in the Lincoln conspiracy.
