Obituary for Nelson Sr. Davis

Nelson R. Davis, Sr.

Private Services were held at Davis-Becker Funeral Home for Nelson R. Davis, Sr. He passed away Sunday evening at Hospice House with family by his side.

Mr. Davis was born Sept. 3, 1930 in Youngstown, a son of Nelson Roy and Margaret Moore Davis. He was a 1949 graduate of Hubbard High School. Mr. Davis was employed by J & L Specialty Steel in Louisville, Ohio for 35 years as the supervisor of production planning and customer service before retiring in 1985. After retirement, he started Stainless Products Inc., a stainless steel brokerage company in which he operated for over 15 years.

Nelson was an avid golfer and a former member of Youngstown Country Club for 35 years. He particularly enjoyed golfing in the fall when the leaves were changing and his first hole in one was October of 1968 at Rolling Hills G.C. Thirty years later, he made his second hole in one at Y.C.C. in September of 1998. His other hobbies included playing poker with friends, gardening, horse racing and rare coin collecting. Mr. Davis was a member of Al Koran Shrine and Western Star Lodge #21 F&AM for over 50 years.

He will be sadly missed by his children, Dianne Courtis and Nelson R. (Tina) Davis, Jr., and twin grandsons Brandon and Blake all of Boardman. His former wife Harriet Dunn Davis, passed away in 2004. His family will cherish his memories forever and ever.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the wonderful staff and residents of the Woodlands Assisted Living in which he will be remembered by the many friendships he made. Mr. Davis received excellent care during his stay at St. Elizabeth Medical Center-Boardman Campus and Hospice of the Valley.
