Obituary for William L Houser

YOUNGSTOWN - William L. Houser Sr., 78, of the city’s west side, passed away unexpectedly Saturday afternoon, Sept. 28, 2013, at his home after suffering an apparent heart attack.

William was born March 1, 1935, in Youngstown, a son of the late Raymond and Bess Waller Houser, and was a lifelong area resident.

He was a 1953 graduate of Chaney High School and served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960, where he was stationed in Germany.

Bill worked as a machinist for General Electric, first at the Mazda Lamp Plant, and then at the Austintown Coil Plant, retiring after 30-plus years in 1996. Prior to working for General Electric, he had worked at Wean United.

Mr. Houser was a member of Christ Church Presbyterian and was a member of the Saxon Club.

Bill enjoyed going to flea markets, garage sales, antique malls, and to Mountaineer Racetrack and Gaming Resort. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins, and recently became a fan of the Florida Panthers NHL hockey team. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, and loved attending their ice hockey games.

Bill leaves three children, Dr. William L. Jr. (Monica) Houser of Wexford, Pa., Tamara S. Houser, with whom he shared his home, and George R. (Jill) Houser of North Las Vegas; six grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, Alexander, Shannon, Camryn and Carly; a brother, Russell “Jim” (Delores) Houser of Canfield; and a sister, Arneatha (John) Fromel of Youngstown.

Two brothers, Raymond “Skip” Houser and Lee Houser, preceded him in death.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown.

Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

A committal service with military honors will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
