Obituary for Donald R Planton

GIRARD – Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at the McCauley Funeral Home, officiated by the Reverend James Walker for Donald R. Planton, 65, who passed away Sunday afternoon at Hampton Woods Nursing Center with his family by his side.

Mr. Planton was born March 11, 1948, in Youngstown and was a son of Herbert C. and Georgean Kiffer Planton and was a lifelong member of the community.

He was employed by Reliant Resources as a shift supervisor since 1971, retiring in 2006, was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving from 1965 to 1971 and was a 1966 graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking and gardening.

Mr. Planton leaves to cherish his memory, his mother, Georgean Witkoski of McDonald; stepdaughter, Cindy (Ron) Thomas of Ravenna; stepson, Gary (Ruth) Brannon of Liberty Township; brothers, Michael (Kathleen) Planton of Muncie, Indiana and Terry (Diana) Planton of Chardon; sister, Margilee (Jeff) Hilson of Columbus; grandchildren, Christian and Camille Thomas, Marcy Lilley and Michael Brannon; and great-grandchildren, Megan Brannon, Zack and Kevin Hickman and Laney Lilley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Mary J. Logan, whom he married Oct. 2, 1970, and who passed away May 31, 2003; his father, Herbert; his stepfather, John Witkoski; and a grandson, Avery Thomas.

The family has requested that contributions to be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 or to Touched by Nathan Foundation, P.O. Box 1505, Youngstown, OH 44501

The family will receive relatives and friends Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
