Obituary for John C Leone

WESTLAKE - Prayers will be Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the Fox Funeral Home in Youngstown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church in Boardman for John C. Leone, 88, formerly of Youngstown, who  passed away Saturday afternoon in Westlake, surrounded by his loving family.

 John was born Aug. 21, 1925, in the Province of L’Aquila, Italy, a son of Giuseppe “Joseph” and Dina Cecchini Leone, and, until recent years, had been a resident of the Youngstown area since 1948.

He completed schooling in Italy and came to the United States at the age of 21. He eventually settled in Youngstown. He was employed for many years at the former Republic Steel Corp and was a member of the United Steel Workers Union Local No. 598. He belonged to St. Luke’s parish for 41 years. John was a veteran who served his new country as a soldier in the U.S. Army.

He married the love of his life, Ersilia Pezzuti, on Aug. 15, 1951. They recently celebrated 62 years of loving marriage.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Ersilia; his daughter, Dina L. (Jim) Rendinell of Bainbridge; two sons, Joseph W. (Barbara) Leone of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Denio (Marie) Leone of Rocky River; and 10 grandchildren, Deidra (Justin) Salamone, Nick Rendinell, Jimmy Rendinell, Annie Leone, Denio Leone, Mary Leone, John Leone, Rachel Leone, Dina Leone and Joey Leone.

Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Enzo Leone.
