Obituary for John F Jr. Danks

JOHN F. ''JACK'' DANKS JR BOARDMAN – John F. Danks Jr., 70, died Tuesday afternoon, May 28, at St. Elizabeth Health Center. John, affectionately known as “Jack,” was born March 7, 1943, in Youngstown, a son of John and Irene Robinson Danks. Raised in Boardman, Jack attended Boardman High School. In 1962, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he served for four years. Returning to the area in 1966, Jack was employed by General Motors as an autoworker for Local UAW 1112. He retired after 42 years of service. Jack was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church. In his free time he enjoyed fishing, especially on Lake Erie, having breakfast with his retired buddies from Local UAW 1112, watching old cowboy movies, his favorite John Wayne, and the Pittsburgh Steelers (no choice of his own, but his wife Kay’s). Most important to Jack was spending time with his family and his grandchildren and their annual vacation to Myrtle Beach. Jack leaves his wife, the former Katherine Korda, whom he married July 24, 1965; one son, John F. (Tammy) Danks III of New Middletown; one daughter, Kathy (Guy) Franklin of Canfield; three grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Franklin, both of Canfield and John F. Danks IV of New Middletown; one brother, Frank (Cookie) Danks of Austintown; one sister, Martha Dripps of New Castle, Pa.; brothers-in-law, Michael (Mary) Korda of Austintown and Richard (Gail) Korda of Weathersfield; and 18 nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Jack was preceded in death by three brothers, Harry and Buddy Roof and Robert Danks; one sister, Doris Tarr; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Barbara and Richard Mikesell; and his four legged friend, his dog, Sterling. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home at the new location, 8536 Market St. in Boardman. Interment will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Canfield. Friends will be received today from 5 to 8 p.m. and Friday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home
