Obituary for Avila M Lepera

AVILA M. LEPERA CANFIELD - A requiem Mass will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, 2013, at St. Maron Parish, 1555 S. Meridian Road, Austintown, for Avila M. Lepera, 93, of Humility House, Austintown, formerly of Sleepy Hollow Drive, Canfield, who passed away Wednesday afternoon at Humility House. Avila was born March 31, 1920, in Marblehead, a daughter of the late Theodore and Elizabeth Burns Pokey. She attended eight years of Catholic grade school, taught by the Dominican Sisters of Michigan and graduated from Danbury High School in Ohio in 1938. Avila went on to college and graduated from Bowling Green State University with degrees in Social Studies and English. She also attended Mary Manse College in Toledo. Avila was a member of the Third Order Dominicans. She was a member of St. Maron’s Church. Avila was a teacher in Port Clinton High School for almost 24 years. After her retirement from teaching, Avila married Robert J. Lepera in 1970. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2007. Avila leaves one niece, Carol Fielding (James) Ruecke of Clarkston, Mich.; and one nephew, Dan (Mary Ellen) Ontko of Cleveland. Besides her parents and her husband, Avila was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Ontko, Ruth Fielding; one niece, Irene Ontko Kilbane; and two nephews, Joseph Fielding and Theodore Fielding. Avila will lie in state on Monday at the church from noon until the time of the service.
