Obituary for Sarah Maxine Stevenson

Services for Maxine (Battles) Stevenson, 90, of Willoughby Hills, will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 27, 2013, at the Funersal Home. Mrs. Stevenson passed away Sunday, April 21, 2013. Born January 23, 1923, in Chester Township, she lived in Willoughby Hills since 1947. She was the Chester School valedictorian in 1941. Maxine volunteered in the PTA, was an assistant to special needs children, was a Cub Scout den mother and served as a driver for Meals on Wheels in both Wickliffe and Willoughby. Mrs. Stevenson loved to read, do jigsaw puzzles and visit "shut ins" at various rest homes. She cared about people and provided endless transportation to those in need. Maxine worked at Telling-Belle Vernon, General Electric Corporation Nela Park Division and as a mail carrier for both Wickliffe and Willoughby post offices. Survivors are her daughter, Janis (Fred) Knauf; sons, Daniel (Sandra) Stevenson and Gary (Pamela) Stevenson; grandchildren, Patricia (Sam) Klebanov, Katherine (Jeffery) Pearson, Jennifer, Brian (Deanna), Robert (Katalin), Lee, Matthew and Ann; and four great-grandchildren. Maxine was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clark, who passed away in May, 1994; daughter, Joyce Elaine; parents, Lynn D. and Florence (Bond) Battles; and siblings Eileen Robinett, Leonard Battles and Lester Battles. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2013, at the funeral home. The Rev. Robert Sandham of the Little Church in the Vale and the Rev. David Chapman of Nottingham Baptist Church will officiate at the service. Final resting place will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens, Chester Township.
