ROBERT D. PRICE
PRICE ROBERT D. PRICE, age 89, of Chagrin Falls, formerly of Chesterland. Proud and loving father of Bonna (Tom) DeMarco, John L. (Laurie) and James R. (Gina); dear grandfather of Joelle M. (Peter) Snavely, Dana M. (John) Kelley and Brandon and Jaret Price; and ''Pop Pop'' to Hayley, Shannon and Alexxa Jo Price; great-grandfather of four; and best friends to brothers, Douglas E. (Carolyn) Price II and Daniel E. (deceased) (Nancy) Price. Growing up in Pittsburgh, Bob spent many hours building model airplanes, crystal and short wave radio sets and woodworking projects. In 1939 the family moved to Claridon, Geauga County. He attended Chardon High, was on the Conference All Star Football Team and was president of the Student Council. In 1941 he entered Oberlin College because of his interest in a prominent professor. Pearl Harbor came and he chose to enlist after his 18th birthday on Feb. 24, 1942. Commissioned 2nd Lieutenant in the Corps of Engineers in March, 1943, and trained new troops until July 1943. He then sailed for England where they built troop camps and assault training centers for the invasion of France. July 1944 his regiment crossed the English Channel to Omaha Beach in Normandy and went north into Cherbourg to rebuild demolished docks for liberty supply ships. The regiment participated in the northern France and Rhineland campaigns and then in December 1944 they were in the Battle of the Bulge as infantry attached to the 1162nd combat group in George Patton''s 12th Corps, Third Army. They assaulted and held a key position at the shoulder of the German Bulge on the Moselle River in Luxembourg. Bob was promoted to 1st Lieutenant and was discharged in October 1945 but served in the Army Reserve for 5 years. His first job was in engineering and received a U.S. patent for a Rod Mill Shear with American Steel and Wire which lead to his being named Supt. of Field Construction. In 1961 he joined Hunkin-Conkey Construction and became V.P. - Industrial Division with many major projects including Republic Steel, CEI, Cleveland Waste Water Treatment Plants, Wheeling Steel, Reserve Mining-Minn. and Monroe Co. N.Y. Treatment Plant. In 1972 he joined Krill Co., a design build and construction management firm and retired in 1995 as Chairman and principal owner. Krill was very proud to receive a Build Ohio Award in 1994 for the restoration of Adelbert Hall at Case Western Reserve University after it was ravaged by fire. Other projects included various CWRU Campus Bldgs. Stouffer Foods, Sherwin Williams, Republic Steel, Hertz-Penske Computer Centers and many industrial buildings. In retirement his family genealogy was researched back to 1322 in England. Bob also returned to his childhood and started building model air planes (radio controlled). Interment at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens. Chester Twp.
