Obituary for Marie Gedra

MARIE ''MIMI'' GEDRA YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Christine’s Catholic Church, preceded by closing prayers at 9:15 a.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for Marie (Buday) Gedra, 75, who passed away March 11, 2013, at Hospice House in Poland. Marie was born Aug. 16, 1937, in Youngstown, a daughter of John and Marie (Strednak) Buday. A lifelong Youngstown resident, she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and worked as an LPN in the neonatal unit of Northside Hospital. Marie was a devout Catholic and an active member of St. Brendan’s Church for many years, where she served on various committees including the Altar & Rosary Society, Social Concerns and the Prayer Chain. She was also blessed with a tremendous amount of spiritual support from Pastor Luigi Perez and the congregation of the Mahoning United Methodist Church, where her husband, Ramon, is a lifelong member. She enjoyed quilting and crafts, but will be best remembered as “Baba” by her 11 grandchildren, family and friends. She relished in celebrating every birthday and holiday with her incredible cooking and baking. She took particular joy in helping to organize large annual family reunions. She leaves her husband, Ramon “Butch” Gedra, whom she married July 1, 1961; two sons, David (Laura) Gedra of Fairfax Station, Va. and Daniel Gedra of Belleville, Mich.; two daughters, Christine (David) Buzzacco of Canfield and Marie (Daniel) Dorazio of Green; grandchildren, David “Jake,” Madeline, Stephen, Olivia, and Elizabeth Gedra, David, Danielle, Mario and Aniello Buzzacco, and Daniel and Nicholas Dorazio; two brothers, Robert and John Buday; two sisters, Doris Niles and Loretta Wiles; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her brothers, Matthew, Frank, and Edwin Buday. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Hospice House for their extraordinary care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514 in Marie’s name.
