Obituary for Harold D. Urick

Harold D. Urick (1921-2013) Harold D. Urick, 91, of Timberlake, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 21, 2013. He was born May 2, 1921, in Struthers. Survivors include his beloved wife, Jean (nee Bresnan) of over 70 years; loving children, Bonnie (Manny) Gonzales of Chardon, Jeffrey Urick of Ft. Mill, S.C., David Urick of Madison and Amy (Mike) Walsh of Concord; son-in-law, Ed Krevas; brothers-in-law, Jack Bresnan and Jack Quinn; grandchildren, Alissa, Keirstan, Melinda, Adria, Jessica, Lauren (Greg), Vince, Amanda and Erin; and great-grandchildren, Helena Jean and Charlie. He is also survived by nieces and nephews. Preceding Harold in death were his parents, John and Sue Yurick; daughter, Lori Krevas; sister, Delphine Quinn; and brothers-in-law, Jim and Joe Bresnan. As a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army, Harold fought courageously in the Battle of the Bulge and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. While disarming land mines, he was blinded and lost his sight for 48 years. With advances in medical science, he was privileged to successfully receive a corneal transplant at age 72. After regaining his sight, Harold found enjoyment in bowling, golfing, cheering for the Cleveland Browns, watching Duke basketball, going to Cleveland Indians games and attending Mass at Immaculate Conception. Harold found great pride in coaching CYO basketball and watching his grandchildren play sports. He also worked for the Society for the Blind, managing the concession center, retiring in 1988. He was a long-standing member of the Euclid Knights of Columbus, Immaculata Council. Family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 25, 2013, at the Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Immaculate Conception Church in Willoughby. Interment will be at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mr. Urick''s name to the Cleveland Eye Bank, 11100 Euclid Ave., #WRN 615, Cleveland, OH, 44106.
