Obituary for Helen Mae Kommel

HELEN MAE KOMMEL YOUNGSTOWN – Helen Mae Kommel, 90, passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2013. She was born Dec. 20, 1922, in Youngstown, the daughter of William and Lydia (Flavell) Ferguson. Helen was a 1942 graduate of Chaney High School and a member of the Zion Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Saxon Club Branch 22, serving as sergeant at arms, trustee, the building committee, and statistical secretary for their bowling league, TSBL bowling travel league. She was also secretary of the Protestant Bowling League and the Lutheran Ladies Bowling League. She was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and a member of the Girl’s Club since 1939. Over the course of her life, she worked for various companies throughout the community including Grant Department Store in the electrical department, Pugh Brothers Jewelers, Top Value Stamps, Wedgewood Lanes and DACAS Hot Meals as a sight supervisor. She will be dearly missed by her son, Gary (Diana) Kommel of Youngstown; a grandson, Kelly (Stephanie) Kommel of Youngstown; three great-grandchildren, Andrew and Sydney Kommel and Jillian Jarvis; and a former daughter-in-law, Sue Kommel. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Kommel, whom she married April 12, 1947; two sisters, Mary Olive Haag, and Emma R. Kuncher; and her parents. Friends will be received on Sunday, March 17, 2013, from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel. Funeral services will be held Monday, March 18, 2013, at 10 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, with friends being received from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Arrangements are entrusted to the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel.
