Obituary for Gerald E Finch

GERALD E. FINCH AUSTINTOWN – Gerald E. Finch passed to eternal life on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center. Gerald was born on March 4, 1952, in Columbus, the son of Harold and Mary Knox Finch. The family relocated to this area, where Gerald obtained his formal education in the Lordstown school system, graduating from Lordstown High School in 1970. Following his graduation, Gerry was employed in the road department for Lordstown Township. In 1974, Gerry began his employment at General Motors Lordstown, retiring on Feb. 1, 2013. As a member of the UAW 1112, Gerry served as a committeeman, assisting fellow employees of the company. He continually strived to improve his ability to serve by regularly attending educational programs. Gerry also gave of his time volunteering for many worthy benefits that were initiated by the union. He enjoyed the fellowship of others by his membership in the Masonic Lodge No. 462 F&AM in Newton Falls, where he achieved the 32nd degree of the Scottish Rite. Gerry expressed his faith by attending services at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Niles. On July 21, 1973, Gerald E. Finch and his high school sweetheart, Christine A. Capp, were united in marriage at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls. They were blessed with the birth of their daughter, Carissa. He was a loving husband and caring father and grandfather to the family that was so very important to him. Peaceful pastimes would find Gerry outdoors with Christine, working together in the yard and garden. He found tranquility near the water and enjoyed family trips to Myrtle Beach. Gerry enjoyed grilling and was accomplished at this culinary skill. It was a delight to attend functions where Gerry was at the grill. Treasured memories of Gerry will be carried on by his devoted wife, Christine; his beloved daughter, Carrisa Finch-Pyles and her husband, Timothy; his adored granddaughter, Olivia MacKenzie Pyles; his mother, Mary; his brother, James Finch; his sister, Sue (Tom) Andriko; his brother-in-law, Dale Kimmel; his nieces; his nephews; and his friends. Preceding Gerald were his father, Harold; his brother, Marty; and his sister, Nancy. The family will meet friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 1 to 3 p.m. and again from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Niles, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. with Fr. Donald Hall officiating. Gerald will be laid to rest at Green Haven Memorial Park in Canfield.
