Obituary for Donald Bard

Donald A. Bard (1923-2013) Donald A. Bard, 89, a lifelong resident of Eastlake, passed away Feb. 17, 2013, at Euclid Hospital surrounded by his family. He was born March 31, 1923, in Akron. Don was a graduate of Willoughby Union High Class of 1942, and a member of the school''s sports hall of fame. He was also a member of Shoregate Methodist Church in Willowick, American Legion Post 678 in Willowick and V.F.W. in Eastlake, a sports enthusiast, a founding member of Eastlake Little League, and a veteran in the U.S. Army during World War II, in Patton''s 3rd Army. Mr. Bard was a union member of International Association of Machinists. He worked as a machinist for Addressograph-Multigraph of Euclid for 34 years. Don was a loving husband, dad, grandfather and great-grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family. Don''s wife and children would like to thank the wonderful doctors and staff at the CCU at Euclid Hospital. Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Margaret (McCoy); daughter, Jean (Frank) Halerz; sons, Tim (Donna Miller) Bard and William Bard; daughter-in-law, Barb Bard; grandchildren, Casey Bard, Brian (Carol) Bard, Carrie Bard, Jennifer Halerz, Katherine (Beau) Bassett, Patricia Halerz, Eric Bard, and Nadine (Brandon) Steele; and great-grandchildren, Hannah, Haley, Taylor, Kaydin, Nicholas and Aaliyah. He was also an uncle, cousin and friend to many. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald P. Bard; and siblings, Robert Bard and Jean Furness. Friends may call from 2 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, 2013, at the funeral home. Private Inurnment will be held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
