Obituary for Nazir Ahmed

DR. NAZIR AHMED WARREN – Dr. Nazir Ahmed died Wednesday, Feb. 20, 2013, in Pittsburgh. Born April 20 1936, in Bangalore, India, Dr. Ahmed was a resident of Warren since 1974. He was a 1961 graduate of Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan. He received training in internal medicine in both the United Kingdom and the United States. He was a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine. He practiced internal medicine at Trumbull Memorial Hospital from 1974 to 2001, and served on the Board of Trustees of that hospital for 10 years. Dr. Ahmed was a founding member of the Islamic Society of Greater Youngstown and instrumental in the construction of the Masjid Al-Khair. He founded a scholarship fund in 1997 which has provided scholarships to over 50 minority students in the Youngstown area over the last 15 years. He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Nafees (Jahan); daughters Yasmeen (Nadeem) and Nasreen (Zulfiqar); son Saleem (Iman); grandchildren Aamir, Zehra, Mustafa, Yusuf and Marium; as well as siblings, Bashir, Rashid, Khurshid, Shehnaz, Mushtari and Mushtaq. A funeral prayer was held at the Masjid Al-Khair at noon on Thursday, February 21, followed by burial at Greenhaven Cemetery in Canfield.
