Obituary for G. Howard Shreve

G. HOWARD SHREVE AUSTINTOWN – Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel, for G. Howard Shreve, 86, who passed away Monday evening at his home with family members at his side. Howard was born March 31, 1926, in Cambridge, a son of the late Raymond and Gladys (Pryor) Shreve. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Howard served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre on the Landing Craft Medium LSM No. 376 and also served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. He earned his Master’s Degree from Kent State University and retired as a school psychologist from the Austintown School System after 35 years. He also taught evening classes at Youngstown State University for a number of years. Howard was an active member of the Westview Church of Christ and had been active in the Austintown Growth Foundation. He founded the Associated School Employees Credit Union in 1959 and served on its board for 52 years. Most of all, Howard enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. Howard will be sadly missed by his wife, the former Virginia Burk, whom he married on Nov. 17, 1951; two children, Jennifer (Mike) Kurish and their children, Caitlin and Jonathan of Austintown and Scott (Evelyn) Shreve and their children, Nathan and Raymond of Devon, Pa.; and one brother, Robert P. (Dolores) Shreve of Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 in Howard’s name.
