Obituary for Jesse Elmer Marker

Jesse E. Marker (1918-2013) Jesse E. Marker, age 94, a longtime Mentor resident, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at home surrounded by his family. He was born April 28, 1918, in Farmington, Pa. Mr. Marker was a serviceman for the former Quiggin''s Heating & Air Conditioning Company. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a Seaman First Class. He was a member of North Mentor Centenary United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir. He also sang in the Marker Quartet (Popular Gospel Quartet) over WMBS in the late 1930s early 1940s, which was well known over Southwestern Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. He enjoyed gardening and was an avid Cavaliers and Indians fan. Jesse''s survivors include his wife of 20 years, Lillian H. Ely Marker; children, Carol (Jim) Pike of Blairsville, Pa., David (Anita) Marker of Gallilee, Pa., and Duane (Barbara) Marker of Coral Gables, Fla., stepdaughter, Heather (Peter) Cwalina of Perry; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; nine brothers and sisters, Mack, Albert, James, George, Earl, John, Wanetta, Arlene and Dorothy; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding Jesse in death are his wife, Sally Marker; three stepsons; two stepdaughters; and brother, Wilmer Marker. The family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township.
