Obituary for Samuel A Getz

SAMUEL A. GETZ SR CANFIELD – There will be funeral services at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home in Boardman for Samuel A. Getz Sr., 80, who passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 3, 2013. Samuel was born Aug. 10, 1932, in Youngstown, the son of Samuel F. and Margaret (Pellin) Getz. He was a 1950 graduate of North High School. Samuel was employed as a welder for 25 years at McDonald Welding. He was a member of the Highway Tabernacle Church. Samuel was a member of The Salvation Army Band, where he played the clarinet. He was also a member of the Cross Trailers square and round dancing, a little league baseball coach for Liberty and also a scout leader for Troop 85 in Liberty. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing, camping and traveling. Most of all, Samuel enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the loves of his life. He attended many of their sporting events with great pride. Samuel will always be lovingly remembered by his wife, the former Bernice Kessler, whom he married Nov. 13, 1954; a son, Samuel (Susan) Getz Jr. of Austintown and a daughter, Deborah (Jeffery) of Hartwell, Ga.; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Helen Steele of Girard and Kay Norton of Tampa, Fla.. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Sourgoine and Katherine Rhodes. There will be calling hours from 5 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at the Rossi Brothers & Lellio Funeral Home, 4442 South Ave. in Boardman.
