Obituary for George James Walkinshaw

George J. Walkinshaw, 99, of St. Pete Beach, Florida, passed away on November 11, 2012. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Montgomery Walkinshaw. Mr. Walkinshaw was born on April 20, 1913 in Glasgow, Scotland and migrated with his family to the United States in 1922. He honorably served his new country with the Army during World War II in the South Pacific. He resided in Ansonia for many years before retiring to “Shangrila” in Florida. He was employed in the engineering department of Anaconda American Brass prior to his retirement. He was a long time Mason and Shriner. In addition to his wife, George is survived by his son, Dale Peters and his wife Diane of Beacon Falls; two grand-daughters, Michelle Taggart and her husband, Dr. Gregory Taggart of Kennebunkport, Maine, and Lynn Persico of Seymour; six great-grandchildren, five beloved nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by a beloved sister Helen Dillon and two brothers, Robert and John Walkinshaw. A memorial service honoring George’s rich and full life will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 25 Great Hill Road, Oxford, Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 12502 North Pine Drive, Tampa, Florida, 33612-9499.
