Obituary for Francis J. Corrigan
Services for Francis J. Corrigan,, 56, prominent Kutztown resident and civic leader, who died Sunday night in his home at Pennsylvania and Trexler Aves. were held this morning at 9:15 o’clock in the Fritz and Kendall Funeral Home. Corrigan, Personnel director of the Carpenter Steel Company, Reading, succumbed to a heart attack in his residence. Employed by the Carpenter Steel Co. since 1937, he was named safety engineer in 1951. Five years later he was advanced to personnel director, a position he held up to the time of his death. A native of Philadelphia, he was a member of the National Association of Manufacturers, and served on the industrial relations committee of that group. He was a former chairman of the personnel management and safety committee of the Berks county Manufacturers Association, and was also a member of the civic and government affairs committee.
He was active in the United Fund campaigns and served as chairman of the industrial division. He was also first vice president of the Berks County Chapter American National Red Cross, as well as a member of its executive committee. He was a former director of the Health and safety committee of Daniel Boone council, Boy Scouts of America, and a member of the board of directors of Alcoholics Anonymous, Reading.
Corrigan was also inventor of contour safety spectacles, which has a hinge at the bridge enabling them to fit anyone. They are manufactured by Wilson Products, Division of Ray-O-Vac Co.
Surviving are his widow, Mildred S. (Stichler), head teacher of the Kutztown Elementary School, a son F. Michael, Las Vegas, Nav., four grandchildren, two brothers, John and Thomas, both of Bristol, and two sisters, Rose Corrigan and Mrs. Francis Konz both of Philadelphia.
