Obituary for Michael Pekar
MICHAEL E. PEKAR
BOARDMAN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, Dec. 4, at 10 a.m. at St. Charles Church for Michael E. Pekar, 88. Michael passed away Friday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Pekar was born Sept. 12, 1924, in Youngstown, the son of Mike and Barbara Ihnat Pekar.
He was a real estate agent with Kreider Real Estate, Del, and Century 21 and a Radio Engineer with WFMJ. Michael was an avid amateur radio operator (W8WZP), receiving his FCC license at the age of 14. He was a long-time member of both the Mahoning Valley and 20/9 Amateur Radio Clubs and a member of St. Charles Church.
Michael was a 1943 graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving his country in World War II, and a 1950 graduate of Youngstown State University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.
Michael believed family was the most important thing in life and felt blessed to host many years of gatherings at his home.
Surviving him are his wife, the former Patricia Moran, whom he married Sept. 7, 1963; his children, Barbara (Carle) Robeson of Canfield, Paula Mullins of Austintown, Pamela (Paul) Testa of Poland, Michael (Nany) Pekar of Mason, and Rebecca (Richard) Prairie of Stow; 10 grandchildren, Carle and Michael Robeson, Christopher and Bryan Mullins, Breanna and Sierra Ryzner, Aaron, Ryan and Jason Pekar and Peyton Prairie; and one great-grandchild, Christopher Anthony Mullins.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Mike and Barbara Pekar.
Friends may call today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 4996 Market St. in Boardman, and from 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Charles Church, 7345 Westview Drive in Boardman.
