Obituary for Mildred Griesmar

Mildred W. "Millie" Griesmar (1917-2012) Mildred W. "Millie" Griesmar, age 95, of Painesville Township, passed away Nov. 21, 2012. Millie was distinguished by her vitality, joyful outlook on life and her deep, enduring love for her family. For more than 67 years, Millie was inseparable from her husband, Jacques, who died at age 90, five years ago. She also treasured her two children, the late Jacques Jr., and Judy Rogers, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were always in her thoughts and usually at the heart of her conversations. Almost everyone who met Millie, from her neighbors to her doctors, could not believe she was 95, since she looked and acted much younger. In fact, she continued to work as a volunteer at Lake Health TriPoint Medical Center near her home in Painesville four days a week for 10 years until very recently. She had previously worked at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights for 35 years, before she and Jack "retired" from their century home in Mayfield Village that Millie had carefully appointed with antiques and family mementos to Painesville. Millie was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., June 25, 1917. She grew up with her family there in a big, rambling boarding house owned by her grandparents. She still remembered the details of every room where she and her beloved sisters, Annabelle and Gertrude, would play or help their grandmother clean and make beds. Millie moved to Cleveland with her family when she was a teenager. She and Jack married in 1940, shortly before he served overseas in World War II, including a stint as General George Marshall''s personal assistant in China after the war. Survivors are her daughter, Judy Rogers of Ashtabula; grandchildren, Ronald (Andrea) Griesmar, Julie (Chris) Conger, Kristine (Shawn) Spencer, Ty (Tica) Rogers and Randi (Jeff) Morris; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Sydney, Jake, Alex, Maggie, Vance, MacKenzie, Blake, Gage, Danny and Abbey; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jacques Griesmar Sr.; son, Jacques Griesmar Jr.; and two sisters, Annabelle Majersak and Gertrude Spaninger. Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Friday. Entombment will be held at Western Reserve Memorial Gardens in Chester Township. Contributions may be made in memory of Mrs. Griesmar''s to Sister of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH 44024, or Hospice of the Western Reserve 17876 St Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110-2602.
