Obituary for Herbert R. Benning
BENNING HERBERT R. BENNING, age 91, went home to be with Jesus November 14, 2012. Beloved husband of the late Shirley (nee Whaley); dearest father of Barbara A. Benning and Bruce A. Benning (wife Sharon); loving grandfather of Andrea C. Benning and Lauren H. Benning. Herb was born in Detroit, Michigan on January 2, 1921 and grew up in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Kent State University and was a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during WWII, where he became a naval aviator. He is a retired teacher who enjoyed his retirement. He enjoyed life, loved to travel and loved his family. In lieu of flowers, contributions suggested to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave., Cleveland, OH 44110 or the City Mission, 5310 Carnegie Ave., Cleveland, OH 44103. Funeral Service Friday, November 16, 2012. Interment Western Reserve Memorial Gardens.
