Obituary for Audrey M Sylak

AUDREY I. (MADDOX) SYLAK “Together Again” MINERAL RIDGE – A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church for Audrey I. (Maddox) Sylak, 97, who passed away Sunday at her home. Audrey was born June 23, 1915, in Niles, the daughter of William H. and Edith (Edwards) Maddox. She was a graduate of Niles McKinley High School and also a graduate of Trumbull Business College. Audrey retired as a clerk from Kaufman’s Department Store after 30 years of service. She was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Mineral Ridge and St. Stephen’s Church in Niles, the 55+ Club and the Ladies Guild at St. Mary’s, a member of the Niles Senior Citizens, and a lifetime member of the Mineral Ridge Auxiliary Fire Department. Her husband, Steven Sylak, whom she married May 14, 1939, passed away in May 1987. Audrey leaves four children, Margery Williams of Bradenton, Fla., Billie (Anthony) Cocca of Brookfield, Steven “Daniel” (Wilma) Sylak of Canfield and David (Sonja) Sylak of Mineral Ridge; 18 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren; as well as her lifetime friend of 90 years, Rose Pitt of Niles. Besides her parents and husband, Audrey was preceded in death by one granddaughter, April McCormick; one sister, Edith Maddox; and two brothers, William and George Maddox.
