Obituary for Mary Jean Cole

MARY JEAN COLE AUSTINTOWN – Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at the Higgins-Reardon Funeral Home, Austintown Chapel for Mary Jean Cole, 88, who died Monday afternoon at Omni Manor Nursing Home. Mary Jean was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Youngstown, the daughter of William and Bertha Padgitt. She was employed at the Youngstown Board of Education in its central kitchen for over 24 years before retiring in 1993. She had been a member of the Wickliffe Christian Church. Her husband, Roger Cole, whom she married Jan. 24, 1953, died Nov. 24, 1999. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Graves of Austintown; her caregivers, Mike and Alice Kochera; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mary Jean had an open door policy and always greeted neighbors, family and friends with open arms. She had been like a grandmother to four of the neighborhood children, Julia, Jeremiah, Robin and Katherine Rose. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Cil Zelinsky; and two brothers, Howard and William Padgitt
