Obituary for Genevieve Shively

GENEVIEVA SHIVELY AUSTINTOWN – Genevieva Shively, 95, died on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at her daughter’s home following a short illness. Born Dec. 20, 1916, in Youngstown, she was the daughter of William and Caroline (Higham) Taylor. She lived most of her life in Austintown. She graduated from South High School and then from Youngstown School of Nursing in 1938. She worked as a school nurse for Austintown schools, VNA of Youngstown, as well as Frontier Nursing in Kentucky. Mrs. Shively was an active member of the Ohltown United Methodist Church where she arranged the flowers for the altar; she would then take the flowers to Humility House for others to enjoy. Survivors include her children, Merabeth (Robert) Steffen of Rogers and William “Guy” (Kary) Shively of Austintown; grandchildren Miles Steffen of Rogers and Linsy Shively of Austintown. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of 58 years, R. Walton Shively, who died on Dec. 21, 2009. Friends will be received at the Lane Funeral Homes, Austintown Chapel on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 a.m. at the Ohltown United Methodist Church, 2001 Ohltown Road in Mineral Ridge. Burial will take place at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either the Ohltown United Methodist Church or Hospice of the Valley.
