Obituary for Bernadine McGrath

BERNADINE L. MCGRATH AUSTINTOWN – Bernadine L. McGrath, 90, passed away early Wednesday morning, May 2, 2012, at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. Bernadine was born Aug. 9, 1921, in Friendly, W.Va., a daughter of the late George and Maggie Martin Berkhimer, was a graduate of Sistersville High School and came to this area in the early 1950s. She was a homemaker, worked as a clerk for 25 years for Gray Drug Store in the McGuffey Plaza, and was a Stanley Home Products dealer for many years. Bernadine was a member and past-president of the West Side Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, and spending time with her family. Bernadine leaves three daughters, Judy McIntyre of Austintown, Nancy Yancar, with whom she made her home, and Mary Breckner of McDonald; eight grandchildren, Beth McIntyre, John McIntyre, Dennis (Kim) Krancevich, Lonnie Britton (John), Trey Smith, Jennifer Breckner, Jeff Breckner, and Natalie (Joe) Wilson; 11 great-grandchildren, Katie, Kimmy, Hilary, Felicity, Alexis, Gayle, Alec, Eric, Marissa, Joey, and Cody; and a great-great-granddaughter, Luna. Bernadine will be truly missed by all who loved her. Her husband, George McGrath, a son-in-law, John “Bud” Yancar, a great-granddaughter, Raven, two brothers, Roy and Gale Berkhimer, and three sisters, Ethel Combs, Faye Dover, and Merle Curtis, are deceased. Family and friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at Kinnick Funeral Home, 477 N. Meridian Road, Youngstown, and are welcome to attend the funeral service that will take place at the funeral home at 11 a.m. on Saturday. Committal services will follow at Green Haven Memorial Gardens. Bernadine’s family thanks Dr. J.P. Shah and his staff for the kindness shown and care given to Bernadine over the years.
