Obituary for Mrs. Nancy Y. Armour

Nancy, a first generation American, grew up the youngest of four siblings. She enjoyed the simple life of picking berries from the field across the street, climbing the huge apple tree in her backyard, ice skating at Brooklyn pond, eating the ice chips off the ice truck, and skimming some of the cream off of the milk bottles.

Upon graduating Bassick High School, she became an executive secretary and was accomplished at shorthand. After marrying her beloved Bob and starting a family, she left that career to become a full time wife and mother, roles which she dearly cherished.

She was the neighborhood mom who was always willing to come outside to play jump rope, hop scotch, or other outdoor games with the kids, and thoroughly enjoyed being involved with the PTA when her children were in their elementary years.

Nancy was a Christian. She attended Olivet Congregational Church with her husband and children, and served on the board of deacons for many years. In her later years, Nancy attended Fairfield Grace United Methodist Church.

Throughout her life, Nancy enjoyed many careers, including: bank teller, mortgage appraiser and sales specialist. However, her greatest passion was always her family.

Whether it was going on rides at the amusement park, hunting for fossils, searching for the best sea shells every summer, attending dance and music recitals, little league games, and their play productions, she was always ready for an adventure with the grandkids. She particularly enjoyed day trips, going on family hikes, and playing a rousing round of board games around the kitchen table. Nancy was kind and welcoming. She was a gentle and sweet spirit with a servant's heart.

In addition to her parents, Nancy was preceeded in death by her beloved husband Robert Armour; daughter-in-law, Charlene (Izzo) Armour; sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Donald Banks; brother, Bill Yates; and brother-in-law William Ryan.

Nancy is survived by her children, Linda (Tom) Tighe and Tom Armour; grandchildren Shannon Tighe, Brian (Emily) Tighe, Nathan Tighe, Sean Tighe and Ashley Armour; sister, Gert Ryan; sister-in-law Cary Yates; nieces and nephews: Janet (Peter) Banks-Mott, Ken (Bonnie) Banks, Bob (Mary) Banks, Sherie (David) Ryan-Bailey, David (Alice) Ryan, Michael Ryan, Bill (Caroline) Yates, Michael (Kimberly) Yates, and Cary Rodriguez; several cousins, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces, and many dear friends.

Final viewing 12/13/21 10:00 a.m. at Spear Miller Funeral Home.

Nancy will be laid to rest next to her husband at 11:15.a.m. in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield, Connecticut.
